As 2025 draws to a close, the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS) reflects on a year shaped by reconnection, institutional progress, and a renewed commitment to serving the global gemological community. Long recognised for its focus on coloured stones and practical gemology, AIGS spent the year strengthening not only its academic foundations, but also the relationships that have defined the institute for nearly five decades.

The evening continued with AIGS’s first official Alumni Connect gathering, bringing together alumni from 1978 to 2025. The reunion highlighted the strength and continuity of the AIGS community, uniting generations of gemologists who have gone on to build careers across the global gemstone and jewellery industry.

A keynote presentation by field gemologist Vincent Pardieu offered scientific insight drawn from years of field experience, reinforcing the enduring connection between field discovery, laboratory analysis, and market understanding an educational approach long embedded in AIGS’s philosophy.

Supporting the Next Generation: Scholarship & Academic Partnerships

On October 24, 2025, AIGS hosted the W.K. Ho Research and Academic Scholarship Award Ceremony, commemorating what would have been the 101st birthday of the institute’s founder, Mr. W.K. Ho. Held in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Kasetsart University, the event brought together senior academics and students in recognition of emerging scientific talent.

  • Updated Academic Materials
Course content, master sets, colour charts, and gem identification tools were reviewed and enhanced to reflect current scientific understanding and market developments within the coloured stone sector.
  • New Academic Partnerships
Memoranda of Understanding were formalised with Kasetsart University and Shanghai Jian Qiao University, strengthening academic exchange, collaborative research, and international engagement.
  • Launch of the AIGS Alumni Connector Program
Introduced during Alumni Connect 2025, the AIGS Alumni Connector Program provides structured networking, professional support, and continued engagement for graduates. Built on the pillars of Collaboration – Career – Growth Together, the initiative reinforces AIGS’s long-standing belief that education extends beyond formal study and into lifelong professional relationships.

Continuing Demand for Practical Gemology Education

The Accredited Gemologist (A.G.) Diploma Program remains the most in-demand course at AIGS, reflecting its reputation for comprehensive training and practical relevance. Core modules such as Synthetic & Treated Gem Identification and Colored Stones Grading & Pricing continue to form the backbone of the curriculum.

Students benefit from a strong emphasis on experiential learning, including access to the AIGS Sample Gemstone Room, guided sessions in the AIGS Laboratory and Advance Machine Room, and field-based experiences such as market visits, cutting and heat-treatment factory tours, as well as excursions to mines and museums. These components ensure graduates gain both technical proficiency and a practical understanding of industry operations.

Looking Ahead to the Coming Year

As AIGS moves into the year ahead, the institute remains focused on continuous improvement. Planned initiatives include upgrading laboratory equipment, enhancing gemological tool kits to further support hands-on learning, and introducing a French-language gemology course to better serve an increasingly international student community.

These developments reflect AIGS’s ongoing commitment to evolving with the industry listening, adapting, and investing where it matters most.

As the year comes to a close, AIGS extends its sincere appreciation to its students, alumni, academic partners, and industry colleagues worldwide. Together, they form the foundation of a community built on knowledge, integrity, and a shared passion for gemstones.

From all of us at the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences, we wish you a bright, successful, and inspiring New Year.
