ICA GemWomen is a community within the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) that champions women’s advancement in the gemstone trade through networking, education and advocacy.

On Wednesday, September 17, ICA GemWomen held its first official Hong Kong gathering at Jewellery & Gem WORLD 2025, sponsored by the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS). The networking event, hosted at The Lounge Bar, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel, brought together women leaders from across the gemstone industry for connection and inspiration following the day’s show activities.

Endorsed by ICA President Damien Cody and attended by ICA Directors Ashoo Sinchawla (Thailand) and Katherine Kovacs (Australia), the event underscored the value of unity and visibility for women whose contributions drive innovation and resilience across the coloured gemstone market chain.

Established in 2020, ICA GemWomen launched the event as part of its growing global programme, building on the success of its annual Tucson GJX breakfast. As a vibrant community, it stands as an alliance for women in the gemstone industry, amplifying diverse perspectives, strengthening networks and visibility for women across the industry, and fostering mentorship that supports the next generation of voices and leaders.

“The growing attendance at GemWomen events demonstrates the strong appetite for purposeful, women-led networks within our industry, and Hong Kong is the ideal place to grow that momentum,” said Ruth Benjamin Thomas, ICA GemWomen representative. “We look forward to making this a fixture of the September show calendar.”

Plans are underway to return in 2026, alongside additional GemWomen meet-ups at major industry events.
