The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS), one of the world’s most respected gemological institutions, is set to host AIGS Alumni Connect 2025, a landmark event that promises to be both a heartfelt reunion and a forward-looking celebration of global gemological excellence. Slated for 7 September 2025, the gathering will bring together graduates spanning over four decades, from early pioneers to recent Accredited Gemologist (A.G.) alumni.
This year’s celebration carries special weight as it coincides with the post-pandemic revival of in-person connections and the continued evolution of the global gem trade. AIGS, established in 1978, has long stood as a bridge between East and West, theory and field, heritage and innovation. Alumni Connect 2025 embodies these very pillars.
A Field Legend Returns: Vincent Pardieu as Keynote Speaker
A highlight of the event is the keynote return of Vincent Pardieu, renowned Field Gemologist, adventurer, author, and former AIGS member. Revered for his groundbreaking expeditions to the world’s most remote gem sources, Vincent brings a level of insight, passion, and storytelling that has shaped modern gemology.
In an exclusive segment, he will also unveil his latest work, “Rubies from Greenland” — a pioneering and visually rich publication chronicling the discovery and significance of one of the gem world’s most exciting ruby sources. This book documents 11 expeditions to Greenland’s Aappaluttoq mine — from just before its opening to just before its closure — capturing an extraordinary moment in gemological history.
While the table of contents may appear text-heavy, the book itself is 80% photography and 20% narrative. Through hundreds of captivating images, readers will trace the rubies’ journey from mine to market — including borax heating in Thailand, cutting and polishing, and their transformation into fine jewelry, including pieces gifted to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark.
More than just a book, “Rubies from Greenland” is a deeply personal field gemology travelogue — a visual memoir of a unique origin, told by one of gemology’s most intrepid explorers.
From Graduation to Global Impact
At its core, AIGS Alumni Connect 2025 is a celebration of academic achievement and professional growth. The event will open with a formal Graduation Ceremony for Accredited Gemologist (A.G.) students from 2019 to 2025, recognizing those whose academic milestones were delayed by the pandemic and other global events.
This will be followed by an Alumni Panel & Sharing Session, where alumni from different countries will share their diverse career journeys, insights, and experiences, fostering inspiration and dialogue across generations.
Building a Future-Ready Alumni Network
Looking ahead, AIGS is also launching initiatives to deepen alumni engagement and professional opportunities:
- Alumni Panel & Sharing Session – A dedicated session where alumni from different countries will share their diverse career journeys, insights, and experiences, fostering inspiration and dialogue across generations.
- AIGS Alumni Affiliate Program by Erika – This new initiative empowers graduates to become ambassadors, collaborators, and contributors to the institute’s global network, fostering long-term engagement and mutual growth.
